While Beech Grove is entirely located within Indianapolis city limits, it does maintain its own government, fire, police and school corporation. Approximately 15,000 residents call Beech Grove home as well as the original St. Francis hospital campus and the Amtrak repair center. The Beech Grove City Schools consists of five facilities: Hornet Park, Central Elementary, South Grove Intermediate, Beech Grove Middle, and Beech Grove High.
The original city of Beech Grove was established on a grid-pattern and existed north of Churchman Ave. However, as growth was deemed necessary after World War II, the new age of neighborhoods and cul-de-sacs was incorporated in the area south of Churchman Ave. The difference in lots sizes and home styles is noticeable when examining homes in these two distinctly different areas. Each co-exist beautifully and create a much sought after haven for homeowners.
Beech Grove boasts a true Main St, with storefronts of local businesses calling it home. Exit 52 off of 465 is located on the southern edge of Beech Grove and provides easy access to Indianapolis.
